Just picked up a Titan on eBay for $2077.00. So thrilled to have snatched one up for a really good price. Now I have to figure out what mining management program to use to capture the right coins to be mined each day. Might buy another one later tonight. There is one in Virginia that is getting no attention right now from anyone. snort

Have been looking at those for a while, just didn't want to drop the $$$ on it. I believe @rootdude has at least 1, if not more. He would be a great person to get in touch with as far as the program and the setup.

They did not come with the PSUs. I already have those here anyway. I have been eyeballing these listings for some time now. Originally, I wanted to do the pre-order, but at the time I felt it was too rich for my blood and we were seeing skyrocketing difficulty levels, with declining values of most of the scrypt coins.

They were originally listed at $10,000, and that was when they were not rated at 300 MH/s.

There are several more that currently have low bids below $2,000.00. One is in Israel, the other around the U.S. These things normally command between $2,600.00 and $3,500.00 on eBay. I may buy a second gen version tonight and resell the first gen one I just purchased, or keep them both.

As @Rootdude stated to me in the past, there is every indication that some scrypt coins will rebound in price this summer. So, this could turn into as good of an investment as my DRK coin purchase this morning, which surged only moments after buying on a bottom.

I have been thinking about picking up some home miners again. Nothing as massive as the Titan. Was thinking about the Gridseed black. ~25mh for 500 watts (i know the titan blows that out of the water efficiency wise, but at a fraction of the cost...home mining is just a hobby for me) Those can be picked up pretty cheap.

Think I am going put out the feelers a little more and see what is out there. If LTCgear would ever payout I would pick up a Titan or two!

I used to home mine a bunch. I used the home miners to build portfolios of coins to sit on with the hopes that one takes off one day. That was my early crypto mentality...cover all bases. Now I have learned to research better and what to research to make better educated decisions.

I think we all have learned about how to do this properly from the past year's experience alone. I did pick up two PACMiC contracts last week as well though. I think I will pick up one of the SFARDS 3301 when they hit the market. I have no idea what they will cost though, and as usually is the case, the first batches are generally unable to break even in the first year. Hopefully, I am pleasantly surprised.

I have been keeping an eye on the Titans too. But I have done my due diligence and investigated them as far as I can before buying.
Unfortunately, KnC are not the most responsive company. Their forums are full of complaints about miners arriving DOA, broken cubes, broken controllers etc. People had to wait months for delivery as it kept getting pushed back.
The difficult part is knowing what proportion of miners are good. Consequently, I have only been looking to buy a miner that has some proof of proper functioning at the advertised hashrate. So far there have been two out of 6 advertised on ebay that demonstrated actual hashing.
Lots of them say "brand new, never used". That to me is a warning sign. The RMA process is pretty long winded as far as I can tell.

So I'm still on the fence. That's a lot of cash for a doorstop.

Hey buddy - do yourself a favor and pass on the G-Black and get yourself a Titan. You can easily outstretch the profitability curve because the Titan is leaps and bounds more efficient per MH than anything else on the planet. The Titan is far more quiet and it's much more manageable than the 40LB steel brick that the G-Black is. I get that it's a hobby, but I can easily show you a way to downclock the Titan to giving you triple or more MH per W than the G-Black. The thing about the Titan that I love (and hate sometimes) is that you can set the clock speed AND the voltage of each die individually (4 per cube, 4 cubes, 16 dies) to have it be either a race horse, or a cool, quiet turtle that sips power. It's a geeks paradise.

SFARDS... still waiting to see the MH/W specifications for these before I blink. I like that they aren't doing ANY pre-orders for these, of course, as is Gridseed's influence on the partnership. I'm sure they will produce orbs and blades and eventually get around to bricks... should be interesting... but I don't anticipate that these rigs will approach the W/MH that the Titans do. Further, it'll be months until they have enough hash density to make powerful all-in-one rigs (they usually follow months behind the orbs).

Indeed. After a few go-arounds with KnC support, I think I have the tuning process down far beyond what they have experimented with or are willing to divulge. I spend a week or two working with one of their techs on tuning a rig I had, and he claimed numerous times that I was starving the dies of power which resulted in lowered hashrates... but getting them tuned for optimal hashrate versus power draw was my aim, and I have four six cube rigs that are about as fast and efficient as I can make 'em. While they don't go to 450MH each, they also don't draw 1600W... that's the key, getting the best rate you can from the least power (and least heat, as it turns out as well). I spent 45 days working on the optimal setting for my rigs getting my process down for tuning... and I'm very happy with the results. Doesn't hurt that I got these all for a song...

Even if this doesn't happen, they will still ROI nicely in about 86 days if you get them for under $2300. Maybe even sooner if you are diligent about tuning (reducing power consumption) and have a good mining/renting/trading strategy for yourself as well. If it does happen, you'll have a small boatload of LTC and DOGE and other coins to trade on the upswings.

Speaking to covering all the bases, I'm merge mining LTC, DOGE, PTC, VIA, SYS and ULTC with my rigs and having a blast doing it. Nothing like seeing blocks getting solved regularly and getting nice chunks of DOGE, PTC, VIA, SYS and ULTC hitting the wallets.

Thanks for the advice. I will keep an eye out looking for the good prices. Didn't want to spend $2000+, but it doesn't make much sense to go the other route either. Better off saving up and doing the right thing.

Yep. Not to mention that you have ZERO recourse or warranty with the G-Black. Maybe KnC takes quite a while to fix anything, but at least their support is there to help and they do answer emails within a day or so.

The one a purchased yesterday showed it running in the mining software, so I was pretty happy about that. At least when you purchased one that has been used a little while, you know that if there were any problems, they would have had to deal with them by now. This is one of the reasons I am not keen on the listings that state "new in the box, never used," because you end up buying and finding out it is defective.

I think the Titan is much more energy efficient that this model, but the price is more affordable. I think the Titan is in the neighborhood of ~1500 watts for the ~330mh, while this one is 256mh at ~2200 watts.

If it would have been me, I would have put a reserve price on the listing. I am surprised he had not done so.
